Sally Ainsworth

Sally Ainsworth has been employed as a Crime Analyst for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in Greeley, Colorado since 2000. Her duties include tactical, strategic and administrative analysis, as well as intelligence analysis for her agency. She is also a volunteer officer to the Sheriff’s Office. Sally holds a Pre-law / Criminal Justice degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Masters in Criminal Justice and Crime Analysis. She has played an active role in the training of Analysts through both the Colorado Crime Analysis Association and the International Association of Crime Analysts, as well as serving as Colorado’s representative to the IACA certification committee. She became one of the first certified analysts in 2005. Sally currently teaches crime mapping and analysis for Bair Software, and the International Association of Crime Analysts Professional Training Series.

Sean Bair is the President of Bair Software Research & Consulting; a Colorado based software company dedicated to providing consulting, training and cutting-edge solutions to the law enforcement, intelligence, and defense communities. He is the former Assistant Director at the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center, as well as a former Crime Analyst and Police Officer for the Tempe, AZ, Police Department. He holds a MBA degree from the University of Denver. Mr. Bair has made numerous appearances on television and radio, providing commentary or instruction on the analysis of crime, and other law enforcement related matters. He has trained thousands of analysts, officers and investigators around the world in the analysis of crime.
Mary Craige

Alexandria Police Department
Mary Craige supervises the Crime Analysis Unit for the Alexandria, Virginia Police Department. Her duties include overseeing all aspects of crime and intelligence analysis within the department. As an analyst with Alexandria Police Department, Mary implemented tactical and intelligence software and was instrumental in implementing a mobile crime analysis intranet page for officers to use in the field. Recently, Mary worked with command staff to implement the Strategic Response System (SRS), the Alexandria Police Department’s version of COMPSTAT. This new management tool is built upon bi-weekly crime meetings, an internal crime mapping IMS application and a focus on problem solving. Mary serves as the Vice President for the Virginia Crime Analysis Network (VCAN) and is the Training Coordinator for the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA). In addition, Mary also teaches Crime Mapping and Analysis through the Continuing Education Program at George Mason University. Prior to joining the Alexandria Police Department, she was a Research Associate for the Justice Research and Statistics Association (JRSA) as well as a Crime Analyst with the Fairfax County, VA Police Department. Mary holds a Master of Science in Justice, Law and Society from American University and a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University.
Matt D'Anna

Matt D'Anna is a Tactical Crime Analyst for the Tempe, Arizona Police Department, and has served in this position since August 2005. Matt holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York, and is currently completing a Master of Advanced Study in Geographic Information Systems at Arizona State University. Prior to graduate work, Matt earned Bachelor of Science degrees from Arizona State University in Justice Studies and Political Science. Matt has taught spatial analysis, tactical crime analysis, next event forecasting and basic crime mapping to law enforcement professionals around the country through the Department of Justice's Crime Mapping and Analysis Program (CMAP). He is currently instructing undergraduate courses in Crime Analysis at Arizona State University, and is a former Vice President of the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts.

Dan Helms is the Chief Technical Officer for Bair Software Research & Consulting. His duties include consulting for the US Department of Defense, the US Department of Justice, and police agencies around the globe. He is the former Program Manager of the Crime Mapping & Analysis Program, a former Crime Analyst with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and a former Tactical & Counterterrorist Intelligence Analyst with the US Air Force. Mr. Helms is fluent in the Arabic language, has more than 20 years of experience in analytical professions, and currently lives in Denver, Colorado, with his wife.

Eric Nelson is the Senior Analyst for Bair Software Research & Consulting. He is responsible for providing research, training and innovative analytical solutions in his role as a consultant for multiple government agencies across the country.He is the former Lead Crime Analyst for the City of Lakewood, Colorado, Police Department as well as a former Tactical Crime Analyst for the Tempe, Arizona, Police Department.In addition to his duties as a full-time Crime Analyst in law enforcement for more than seven years, Mr. Nelson is a certified instructor in Crime Mapping and Crime Analysis with the Crime Mapping & Analysis Program (CMAP). He has also served previously as the President of the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts (AACA), the Vice-President of the AACA, and was the founder of the Arizona Tactical Analyst Network (AZTAN).
Derek J. Paulsen

Derek J. Paulsen is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Police Studies and Director of the Graduate Program of Criminal Justice. He has published numerous articles dealing with crime mapping, GIS, and crime analysis issues that have appeared in such journals as Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies and Management, Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling, International Journal of Police Science and Management, and Police and Society. A frequent presenter on crime mapping and geography of crime related topics at both academic and professional conferences, Dr. Paulsen has been an invited speaker at both the NIJ MAPS Conferences and the UK Crime Mapping Conferences in addition to being an instructor for the Kentucky DOCJT, NIJ CMAP and several other state and Federal organizations. Dr. Paulsen is also the lead author of the book Crime Mapping and Spatial Analysis of Crime and Project Director of a NIJ grant dealing with Crime Series Analysis.
Joe Ryan

Alexandria Police Department
Joe Ryan is a Crime Analyst with the Alexandria Police Department in Alexandria, Virginia. In that capacity he creates analysis products to assist detectives and officers in the field. Joe has also played a key role in the department's transition to its Strategic Response System (SRS), a geographic accountability model similar to CompStat. Joe is also an instructor in George Mason University's Graduate Certificate Program in Geographic Information Systems. Prior to coming to APD, Joe was the Director of the Crime Mapping and Problem Analysis Laboratory at the Police Foundation where he supervised the operations of the laboratory while marketing and advancing the ideas of problem analysis, crime mapping, crime analysis, and community policing. Joe received his B.S. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Geography and Environmental Systems. While at UMBC, Joe also completed the Cartography Certificate Program. While currently focused on local law enforcement analysis, in his previous positions with the Police Foundation and as the Evaluation and Crime Mapping Program Manager at the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, Joe successfully completed projects with all levels of law enforcement including the FBI, DEA, ATF, United States Customs, the Maryland State Police, and many others.
